For many family caregivers, money is an important issue. As a family caregiver, chances are that you incur (extra) expenses for the care you give to a loved one. For example, you may spend more money on phone and travel expenses, costs for doing laundry or help with the household. Or you may have started working less, reducing your income.
There are all kinds of laws, regulations and financial aspects that you may have to deal with as a family caregiver and that may affect your personal situation. Think of the possibility to be exempted from the obligation to apply for unemployment or social security benefits. Sometimes there is also the possibility of being paid from a personal budget. Mantel care allowance and health insurance
As an informal caregiver, it is a good idea to research which health insurance best suits one's personal situation. MantelzorgNL has created a handy overview of what is reimbursed per health insurance policy. Think of reimbursement of the cost of substitute care (respite care), an informal care broker, travel expenses or informal care courses. Mantel Care Appreciation
Also in 2025, the Halderberge municipality appreciates informal caregivers. The appreciation consists of gift certificates worth €125 that can be spent at various local entrepreneurs. This can be applied for from September 1 to October 31, 2025.
